Sometimes life can really be confusing or is that just me? Why is it that whenever you think you are going along nicely, something really minor turns into a bigger issue and if you are not careful, your wheels can truly come flying off your cart!
I started 2019 on a very positive note. 2018 was testy to say the least and I was determined to go for it in 2019 and not be distracted or discouraged. 2 months and 4 days in, I am a little bit of both. Distracted because I have not been as purposeful as I should have been and discouraged because I have been distracted. I know what I need to do and yet still I procrastinate, praying and hoping that God will help me. He will, I just need to make a move of faith first. What frustrates me is, I know what I need to do, I just seem paralyzed to do it…
Are you too at a cross road and are a little afraid and unsure which path the take? Do you look at others seemingly doing so much better than you and struggle to push down the jealously - yes, call it what it is, rising up inside you? After all, you have been faithful, a good Christian, kind and compassionate and always doing things the right way. So why do you feel as if you are always failing or coming in last? The truth is, sometimes we hinder our own progress and tie the hands of the Lord by our own inactivity and unbelief. 2 Timothy 1: 6-7 reminds us to “ stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). So if this is true - which I know it is since God cannot lie, why do we fear? Why are we not using the gifts that God has given to us to build his Kingdom?
I am challenging myself and you too - let us begin today to stir up the gifts. What are the talents that you have? The things that are so easy for you to do and fulfilling when you do them? Do you have a nagging desire to do something? This could well be the Holy Spirit nudging you gently to move on those desires. Believe me, if this is a gift from God, He will perfect it in you and your peace will come through your obedience. What can you do today to change someone else’s tomorrow?
